Important Functions of Automobile Gaskets

There are many things to think about when you are ready to perform maintenance tasks on your vehicle. There are the obvious items to check, like the fluids, belts, battery and tires. But, have you ever given thought to the gaskets? These little guys are equally as important for the proper functioning of your vehicle.

Gaskets fit between the fluid-bearing surfaces of the engine and keep the fluids from escaping. They are most often made with multi-layered steel, copper or rubber. The main types of gaskets are the head gasket, which fits between the engine block and the head of the cylinder, the intake manifold gasket, which keeps the air in the chamber contained during combustion and the exhaust manifold gaskets, which also contain the air but are placed between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head.

If you are noticing signs of gasket failure, such as foaming in the radiator, white smoke from the tailpipe or oil in the coolant, then bring your vehicle in to our service center here at Prestige Audi in Lakewood, CO, and we will provide all your service needs.
